The Fight of Faith

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

— Ephesians 6:12

Life is spiritual. To think that all you see is all there is, is to kid yourself. The greatest trick the devil has played on this generation is convincing people that he does not exist. There are forces always at play in our daily lives — for good and for bad — and just because you believe you are not part of the spiritual activity doesn’t mean you can opt out.

This is war. The Lord Jesus makes this clear in Matthew 12:30 — there is no neutral ground. He states that if you oppose Him and His purpose, you are the enemy, and if you stand on the sidelines as a spectator, you are only making things worse.

There is a term used in law: when someone is witness to a crime being committed and had the ability to stop it or report it but chose not to, that person is deemed complicit. This carries a weight and a stigma, even if the person was not a direct accomplice. Even human nature understands that standing on the sidelines when you are called to act is cowardice.

When the Lord Jesus likens the Christian walk to war, it is both a call to duty and a sobering reminder of the seriousness of the life we have been called to. In war, those who choose to stand idle become casualties.

The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong — but to those who endure to the end. A crown awaits them. Endurance is the name of the game.
